STILLSPEAKING, shorthand for God is Still Speaking, launched its first edition at the end of April. This oversized, full-color magazine with a high photo-to-text ratio targets members and potential members of United Church of Christ. The 88-page subscription-only magazine’s intent is to encourage and inspire, but according to the Rev. J. Bennett Guess, the UCC’s director of communications, this is not a news magazine.
“StillSpeaking Magazine promises to be a full-sensory experience for readers, with compelling writing and expert photography that will communicate stories of inclusion, involvement, transformation and the best aspirations of the UCC, its members and its churches,” said the Rev. Guess in a staff report published on the UCC website.
The first issue featured topics such as stewardship as well as tougher issues concerning the church, homosexuality and family. In an article on the UCC website, The Rev. David Greenhaw, president of Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, said “It reflects a desire for diversity, and it doesn’t pull punches on the social agenda.”
Guess serves as the magazine’s publisher; Gregg Brekke, firstname.lastname@example.org, is editor. StillSpeaking is published twice a year, in the spring and fall, by the United Church of Christ. More information is at the website.
