Two Competitive Stamford Magazines Announced on the Same Day

Stamford from CanaidenSTAMFORD magazine, a monthly, is launching in July.  STAMFORD magazine, a bimonthly, is set to launch October 15.

Stamford from MofflyBesides the situation being confusing, the two magazines are setting up a, sort of, digital-versus-print battle.

The first “Stamford” is launched by Stamford-based Canaiden LLC and will be available for purchase through the on-demand publishing service MagCloud.  The second “Stamford” will be launched by Westport-based Moffly Media and is planned as a regular print title.

magcloud.com logoMagCloud enables anyone to publish their own magazines.  All you have to do is upload a PDF and the company takes care of the rest, including printing, mailing, subscription management, etc. Besides the design of the magazine, there are no upfront costs.  When a customer orders, MagCloud charges 20¢ per page plus shipping, so that a 20-page magazine would be $4.00 plus shipping.  The magazine owner sets the retail price and pockets all proceeds above MagCloud’s base price.  In addition, the magazines are printed using HP Indigo technology, so every issue is custom-printed when it’s ordered.  Printing on demand of course means no big print runs, which means no pre-publishing expense and no unsold copies to be trucked back to the distributor and shredded.  Magazines are printed on full color 80lb paper with saddle-stitched covers.

We’ll check back on these two magazines after the second one has launched.
