Small Publisher Sells off Its Only Two Titles

LAKE ERIE LIVING and OVER THE BACK FENCE have a new owner, Cleveland, OH-based Great Lakes Publishing (OHIO*, CLEVELAND, INSIDE BUSINESS.)  They were acquired from LongPoint Media.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Lake Erie Living and Over the Back Fence make a great addition to Great Lakes’ travel franchise, said Dick Clough, president of the Northeast Ohio Communications Advocates told “They’ve really positioned themselves as the leading publisher of glossy consumer travel magazines in the region and the state,” he said.  Great Lakes’ president Lute Harmon Jr agrees with the fit and told that part of the reason for buying the LongPoint titles “is because we admired them.”

Lake Erie Living, which aims to celebrate “the good life on a Great Lake,” publishes 25,000 copies for those who own homes along the lake or spend weekends there.  Subscribers live in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan and Ontario.  It will publish in March, May, July and September to “coincide with the seasons,” Harmon said.

Over the Back Fence, which touts itself as “Southern Ohio’s Own Magazine,” publishes 14,000 copies for readers south of Columbus and east of Cincinnati.  It will be shipped as “a complement” to Ohio magazine.

The publisher plans to retain half of its five full time staffers, Harmon said.  The others will stay on in a freelance capacity.
