Getting bold in San Francisco, a new print quarterly launches

THE BOLD ITALIC, a new print magazine covering the San Francisco culture scene, launched on September 12, and is a spin-off from the website of the same name.

Described by the editors as “an experiment in local discovery,” the large-format magazine covers the local arts, design, cuisine, hot spots and merchants, often going behind-the-scenes to get experiential stories.  The first issue focuses on “25 ways to be a local,” with a checklist of activities the staff recommends that every San Franciscan should do at least once.

Nicole Grant, founder of the website, is one of three “producers” who head up the print quarterly’s editorial team, along with Sarah Han and Jennifer Maerz.  For information email  Visit the website at
