Back in print once again, an alt-rock magazine never really left

MAGNET, the indie-rock magazine launched in 1993, has come back to print after being forced to go online-only in 2008, due to financial pressures.

Relaunched as a monthly, the publication is reconnecting with the 10,000 loyal subscribers it had when the print edition was shuttered, surprising them with copies in the mail.  Returning readers will find artist profiles, critical reviews and original photography covering the world of alt-rock.

A new healthy lifestyle magazine juices things up in Canada

JUICE, a Canadian healthy lifestyle magazine, is scheduled to make its debut in April of 2012.

The new bimonthly will focus on healthy eating and nutrition, recipes, meal planning, practical health tips and financial advice.  Editorial content will be aimed at household decision makers.  Publisher Transcontinental Media says the magazine will “inform, inspire and enable consumers to achieve their healthy eating and lifestyle goals.”

Part of a multimedia brand launch, Juice will have an initial circulation of 400,000 print copies sold through retailer newsstands, and sent to a large selection of Loblaw store customers.  No announcements have been made about editorial staff and currently there is no live website.  Direct inquiries to Transcontinental director of communications, Nancy Bouffard, nancy.bouffard@transcontinental.ca.

Reality bites: A new weekly dedicated to the reality TV genre

REALITY WEEKLY, a magazine exclusively dedicated to covering reality TV shows and stars, will debut in January 2012, with an initial run of 13 test issues.

The new glossy, published by American Media, will offer photo-heavy features of the latest news, recaps and inside scoops.  Several celebrity contributors have signed on, such as Simon Cowell, Ryan Seacrest and Donald Trump.  A companion website will launch as well.

Sold only on newsstands and through chain merchants, the magazine’s slogan is, “Less Money, More Fun!”  Richard Spencer, rspencer@amilink.com, editor-in-chief of OK! magazine in the U.S., also will be at the helm of Reality Weekly in the same post.  There is no active website as yet.

A new limited-edition art magazine will debut in Vancouver

BAG, a new modern art magazine, will debut on November 25 in Vancouver, B.C.

Each issue is dedicated to the work of one emerging artist, and is printed as a limited collectors’ edition.  The inaugural issue, featuring the work of Devitt Brown, is 40 pages long, printed on newsprint, signed by the artist and numbered like a lithograph.  Only 250 of the numbered copies are being produced, with an additional 250 unnumbered copies printed and distributed through selected outlets.
