Reuters news agency tries its hand at news magazine publishing

REUTERS, a new magazine test issue from Thomson Reuters multimedia news agency, debuted in January at the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Focused on global economic and political concerns, topics covered in the inaugural issue include WikiLeaks impact on global relations, an assessment of Twitter’s business model and America’s increasing reliance on drone warfare, as well as economic stories tailored to the Davos attendees.

Produced over a two-month period, 11,000 copies of the magazine were published, with 5,000 going to Davos and the remaining 6,000 distributed to clients and others.  While editorial and publishing plans are up in the air, Jim Impoco, executive editor of Thomson Reuters Digital, says “I would be very surprised if there wasn’t a print product in our future.”  The editor-in-chief is Stephen Adler.
