MODERN FARMER Hopes to Bridge Rural/Urban Divide

ImageMODERN FARMER is a new quarterly print, website, event series and online marketplace for people who care about where their food comes from. According to an interview with founder Ann Marie Gardner, this mean combining, “a lot of existing bits and pieces into a workable 21st century media model, where elements like events and e-commerce are thoughtfully integrated into more conventional editorial offerings.”

In the same interview, Gardner says the magazine is not aimed exclusively at rural farmers or urban foodies, but at people who care about the production of food. It will cover people, policy, issues, animals, plants and the technology of farms and food. Topics include farm tech, climate change, history of farming and first person essays.

Based in Hudson, New York, the magazine has an international scope. The first issue will be distributed next month. Currently, freelance submission information can be found on the magazine’s Tumblr account and the editors can be reached at edit@modfarmer.com
