Newspaper tries a parenting hub

Just Kidding magazine coverJust Kidding is a new quarterly parenting magazine from Chicago Tribune. A second issue (the first came out in November) has been published but is still considered in “soft launch” mode.

It targets those with children from infants to teens – more specifically parents of pre-school and elementary-school-age kids. “Parents are really always struggling for things to do with their families, and looking for good strong local content about how to enjoy their city, how to do it on a budget, and how to make the most of it,” Editor Amy Carr, @amyscarr, said.

It is part of Tribune’s new hub for parenting content, which also includes a branded page each week in the Sunday section, a website and an upcoming series of special events.

WEHOville.com Launches Print Newspaper

WEHOville LogoWEHOville, a new free weekly newspaper, will bring community news to West Hollywood and the adjacent areas that feel an affinity for WeHo.

The paper will be a print edition of the website, WEHOville.com. It covers local news, with the goal of providing residents with unbiased information to make decisions about local issues, such as politics, development, preservation, traffic, taxes and spending. The website also covers gay life, music, dining, nightlife, art and culture, style, design, and health and fitness.

The West Hollywood Media Company is launching the new publication to reach a broader audience and in an effort to become a self-sustaining media organization. It’s trying to raise $35,000 via Kickstart to subsidize the launch of the newspaper. Part of this money will be used to expand WEHOville’s network of freelancers, in particular to cover more local sports, local business, and commercial and real estate development.

The weekly newspaper will be launched in late summer and will be published every Thursday. It’ll be distributed throughout West Hollywood and border communities.

Dan Watson is executive editor, Dan@WEHOville.com. Press releases should be sent to press@WEHOville.com.
